THE GINI COEFFICIENT, BY COUNTRY
The Gini coefficient, named after Corrado Gini, the statistician who developed it, is a measure of income inequality within countries. A Gini coefficient of 1 shows perfect inequality of incomes; a Gini coefficient of 0 shows perfect equality.
The table below, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_income_equality
shows World Bank data for 152 countries on income equality, by most recent year with available data, expresssed as percentages of the Gini coefficient. Denmark, Japan and Sweden are tied with greatest equality of income. At the other end of the scale, Namibia, followed by South Africa, has the greatest inequality.
Has anyone compared these figures to such indicators as IMR, U5MR, and maternal mortality?
