CSU 63/2009: MALARIA DATA/PUBLICATIONS ON EQUITY IN HEALTH
1) USE OF HEALTH FACILITY DATA FOR ASSESSING IMPACT
Writing in the Malaria Journal, Rowe and colleagues explore the
methodological problems surrounding use of health facility data to gauge
the impact of malaria control interventions.
Am I correct in believing that are no internationally agreed criteria
for malaria surveillance of the kind used in AFP and measles
surveillance? Such standards as the ABER (annual blood examination rate)
enshrined, for example, in Pampana's Textbook of Malaria Eradication
fell into disuse decades ago, and have not, to my knowledge, been
replaced.

2) EQUINET WEB PUBLICATIONS
Subsaharan Africa has three health financing problems: declining
external financing for health, low internal financing (with a few
exceptions like Zambia, Namibia and Botswana), and inequitable
distribution of resources within countries. Equinet, an affiliate of
SADC, has published several papers on this subject on the Internet.
Those interested should consult them at

Good reading.
