Dear readers,
There is a huge and growing literature, both published and grey, on male circumcision. The first of the five reviews listed below gives the results of the three randomized clinical trials (from South Africa, Kenya and Uganda) on use of circumcision to prevent heterosexual acquisition of HIV in men.
Much of the literature focuses on Africa. The Indian review (third reference) looks at religion and circumcision (the two are related in India) and finds a significant protective effect of Islam/circumcision against HIV acquisition.
The ‘intactivist’ opponents of circumcision have produced many counter-arguments to circumcision, rebutted in the last article cited.
Good reading.
