CSU 3/2010: NEW LOOK ON TECHNET21 HOMEPAGE -- MORE CONTRIBUTIONS NEEDED FROM DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

Pls see self-explanatory note from reader James Cheyne.

Good reading.

START

On Tuesday 21st December 2010, a renewed TechNet21 or Technical Network for Strengthening Immunization Services, website was launched. The website address remains the same: techhnet21.org.

The purpose of the site also remains the same: to provide an information bridge between the tens of thousands of people working in countries delivering vaccines and the policy makers who mostly work in Geneva, New York and Copenhagen and in the WHO and UNICEF Regional offices;

Those of you who are already members of the TechNet21 forum will not need to re-register with the new site.  Those of you who would like to register, please go to
technet21.org and click 'Login'.

The website includes everything from the existing site so nothing is being lost but plenty is being gained. The site has been extensively beta tested incorporating readers' comments and comments received during almost three hours of debate in TechNet meeting. earlier this month.

The new website now has:
  • A space for blogs for debate on difficult issues. For example under what conditions should countries purchase locally-manufactured refrigerators for storing vaccines?;
  • A photo depot where you can post your pictures or select pictures for use in presentations;
  • A new networking space to link colleagues who have similar ideas and face similar challenges;
  • A new depot where software and other tools are available for download;
  • Latest news and research articles on immunization;
  • The latest job announcements,
  • An expert database and more.
It's easy for the TechNet21 site administrators to get people in Geneva, New York and Copenhagen to contribute their thoughts and ideas; what we want most of all is to hear from the thousands of people who work day-to-day providing immunizations services - be they programme managers, nurses, storekeepers, waste disposal specialists, etc. since they live and work every day with the policies, challenges and opportunities that we talk and write about.

We would be grateful therefore if you could tell your colleagues in the Ministry of Health about the new site and encourage them to logon and contribute their ideas, thoughts, pictures, and blogs on immunization and logistics issue that concern and interest them.

TechNet21 will be a powerful leader for change when we hear as much from the ''Field'' as we currently hear from the ''Clouds''.

Many thanks.

TechNet21 is generously supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, under the oversight of WHO and UNICEF.  The new site design has also been supported by WHO-PATH Optimize.
