THREE LESSONS ON AIDS FROM AFRICA

Thursday, 7th of August 2014 Print
Writing in the New York Times, Nita Rosenberg points out three country examples of success against HIV in sub-Saharan Africa, from Rwanda, Ethiopia and Malawi.

In Rwanda and Ethiopia, efforts to stop HIV have coincided with health services strengthening at the community level. There is no such thing as a mass campaign against AIDS or other chronic diseases. The health services must be there 12 months a year.

In Rwanda, with low baseline levels of male circumcision, the government has promoted voluntary male circumcision, starting with university students and the armed forces.

Good reading. BD
