Dear All,
THE FINAL PHASE OF POLIO ERADICATION AND ENDGAME STRATEGIES
This is the second time in recent years that the Journal of Infectious Diseases has devoted an entire supplement to a single EPI target disease (previously, to measles). You will find the ETOC, with weblinks to the individual articles, at http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/210/suppl_1.toc
No one familiar with GPEI will be surprised to see that the section on immunization and health systems comes at the end. Old habits die hard.
Of the articles listed, two are open access:
The impact of polio eradication on RI, http://www.childsurvival.net/?content=com_articles&artid=3422
Immunogenicity and effectiveness of routine immunization with 1 or 2 doses of IPV,
http://www.childsurvival.net/?content=com_articles&artid=3421
The remaining articles are pay per view; abstracts only are free of charge.
I note with displeasure that while there have been 474 publications on polio eradication in the last five years, only 212 of that number have been open access. Do the authors and editors really believe that hungry undergraduates are ready to pony up $30 an article? Were we that wealthy when we were undergrads?
Good reading of the abstracts. Good reading of the articles, for those of you who can afford it.
