Articles on Polio and the Polio Endgame by Kimberly Thompson
The work of Kim Thompson and her colleagues focuses on epidemiological and economic aspects of the polio endgame. It is essential reading for all polio eradicators. Of particular interest is item 8, which discusses the implications of the Israeli polio importation, with its silent circulation, and environmental sampling as a complement to AFP surveillance.
Writing before the Laotian and Burmese VDPV outbreaks, Thompson and co-author called for more tOPV SIAs before the April 2016 switch, and more bOPV SIAs afterwards (item 1).
Looking over the horizon, Thompson and co-authors look at the long term costs of post-eradication strategies, including but not limited to large scale use of IPV in many countries.(item 2).
