Articles by Mkanda on Polio and Polio Elimination in Nigeria
Pascal Mkanda is a veteran of GPEI, formerly in Nigeria, now in the WHO regional office for Africa. His co-authored work from Nigeria is largely focused on technical and social approaches to stopping transmission in the more challenging northern states of that country.
Of particular interest to students of Nigeria are the items on use of GPS for tracking polio vaccination teams (item 2), the introduction of IPV in conflict affected zones (item 4), the extensive use of the LQAS methodology (item 7), and the “Nigerianization” of the STOP program which originated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (item 8).
