For Nigeria, the defining event of 2016 was the detection, in Borno State, of wild poliovirus, mistakenly thought to have been eliminated. Of the 24 Nigeria items in this listing, 20 are on polio.

Nigeria confronts many public health issues, but most will be eclipsed until Nigeria stops transmission of wild poliovirus.
